The Beatles in the context of socialist Czechoslovakia in the radio documentary

The bachelor's thesis The Beatles in the Context of Socialist Czechoslovakia in the Radio Documentary is divided into two parts - practical and theoretical. The main practical part is focused on the impact of The Beatles on Czechoslovakian politics and culture. In the radio documentary, the author is trying to describe the atmosphere of the sixties. Therefore, the listeners can hear original Beatles songs as well as songs performed by Czechoslovakian interprets. Thanks to the comments of the singers and music publicists it is pointed out that The Beatles had a huge impact on Czechoslovakian society as, apart from the music itself, the band had a symbolic meaning creating a connection with the democratic world for the Czechoslovaks. The theoretical part of the thesis mainly deals with the definition of the radio documentary. It describes the particularities of radio broadcasting and it briefly mentions the history of radio broadcasting in Czechoslovakia. The creation of the radio documentary is also described in the practical part. It explains why the author decided to choose this topic and also the respondents and the choice of the target audience is clarified. Conceptualization of Life in the Czech Popular Lyrics (Contribution to the Study of the Linguistic Picture of the World)

This thesis examines the conceptualization of life in the lyrics of Czech popular songs of 1960s. The thesis derives theoretically and methodologically from cognitively and culturally-based approaches to language, especially from the theory of conceptual metaphor and metonymy (e. g. Lakoff and Johnson) and the concept of language as a picture of the world (school of Lublin). At first the thesis analyses the semantics of lexeme life. The analysis is based on the data from dictionaries and it reaches the basics of the linguistic picture of life as it is anchored in common language. Simultaneously the thesis works with the picture of life (in contrast with death) how it is served in the literature about Czech folk culture. The main part of this study consists of almost a hundred interpretations of lyrics from the examined period, which depict human life in its various stages and forms (through oppositions of life - death, youth - old age, etc.). The analysis follows relevant semantic elements which participate on its conceptualization. Patterns of use addictive substances at active musicians in music groups in the Benešovsko

Introduction: Addictive substances among musicians is a common occurrence. However, this phenomenon is mostly described only by the musicians themselves in their autobiographies. There is little professional work to address this phenomenon. There are many factors that affect musicians and lead them to use addictive substances. Even though this phenomenon is so widespread, it is taken for granted and few pay attention to it. Aim: Aim of thesis is to identify and describe patterns of substance use in active musicians in music groups that are based in the Benešov region, but play outside this area too. Methodology Data were collected in the form of a semi-structured interview. A list of music groups was created using the bandzone website. These groups were then found on Facebook to find out their activity. They were also subsequently approached here. 9 researched musicians took part in the research. Responses from the interviews were recorded directly by hand. Overwrite was performed while data was being written. Subsequently, the data were analyzed by elements of grounded theory. This diploma thesis with the title The phenomenon of Karel Gott in Czech press during 1960s-1980s researches a media representation of Karel Gott. Media representation of the most popular singer of Czechoslovakia is in this thesis constructed based on the analysis of media contents of three contemporary printed serials during the years 1959-1989. The theoretical part of this thesis focuses on the area of cultural politics, it deals with specific attributes of popular music in Czechoslovakia and it also presents the identity of Karel Gott. This part of thesis also deals with the press production with focus on the censorship. The aim of this thesis is to compile the media representation of Karel Gott using the method of critical discourse analysis presented by Norman Fairclough. The analysis uses mentioned method to research contents regarding Karel Gott and published in contemporary printed media, such as the serial Mladý svět, Vlasta, Pionýrské noviny, Sedmička and also Sedmička pionýrů. Vocabulary of current popular songs

This bachelor thesis, based on the comparison of the results of the TOP 50 charts for 2016, analyzes the vocabulary of Czech pop songs in 2016, namely the work of Ondřej Ládek. We explore the vocabulary layers, describes the meaning of words by analysis of twenty selected songs by Slza and Xindl X and examines these texts from the point of view of phrazeology. Theoretic literal concepts from the field of versology worked out marginally. In conclusion this bachelor thesis compare differencies in the work of Ondřej Ládek depending on project. The results of this work enable us to get to know the contemporary pop culture and the way it forms one of the most played Czech authors.

The Function of Biblical motifs for Lyrics in Czch Pop Music of the 1960s and 1970s

The thesis "The Function of Biblical Motifs for Lyrics in Czech Pop Music of the 1960s and the 1970s" introduces the academic framework of the topic within the first chapter: the definition of the terms, the criteria and method for selecting the motifs and lyrics used. Then, the position of Czech pop music in the cultural and political context of the period is explained, which is a relevant part of the topic itself. Also an outline of the academic reflection of the related topic is referred to as well as the function of biblical motifs in other styles of music (rock, folk and underground music) with the emphasis on the projection of the stylistic differences into using these topics for the lyrics. It also deals with specific elements cooperating within the pop music genre with regard to the observed period. The following four chapters are probes into the pop music and biblical motifs issue. They are meant as the reflection of the the inner dynamics of the genre as well: in the second and third chapters the selected biblical motifs (general motifs, prayers, biblicisms and biblicalcharacters) are enlisted and the anylysis of their funcion and using for various lyrics is provided in comparison with their biblical message and introducing the original loci in the Bible. Czechoslovak musical elite in the late eighties and early nineties of the 20th century

At the turn of the eighties' and nineties' of the 20th century, correspondingly to the whole social scale, significant changes happened on the domestic music scene. The musical and the creative elite were confronted with the Anglo-American production, and were forced, in a number of cases, to come up with the alternative ways of expressing themselves under the new circumstances. The goal of this thesis is to compare and contrast the situation on the domestic scene during the period right before the November 1989 and the period to follow; based on the various testimonies of popular Czechoslovakian musicians. The research aims to collect the information regarding contemporary popularity of the Czechoslovakian modern music and authors from the eighties'. I'm trying to verify if the critique perspective of one part of the public experts on the allegiance of the musical elite and the ideology of the pre-November regime is justified or not. At the same time, the thesis follows the fortune of the music stars in relation to the changing social order and, in addition to it, establish the basis for the study of the further research in the field.
